The cost associated with buying a home in the UK is typically 14% lower than renting a property, according to new research by Halifax. The average monthly costs associated with buying1 a three bedroom house in the UK stood at £608 in March 2011; 14% (£98) lower than the average monthly rent paid2 on the same property type of £706. Three years ago, the average cost of buying was 43% more than the typical rent paid.

The board of the insurer of last resort for property along the Texas coast has selected John Polak as the association’s interim general manager.
Polak succeeds Randy Wipf, who was named acting general manager of the Texas Windstorm Insurance Association in March after former General Manager Jim Oliver was ousted following a takeover of the organization by the Texas Department of Insurance.
Polak has more than 39 years of industry experience, including management positions in financial, actuarial, underwriting and claims handling. He has worked in both the public and private sectors, and has served as the head of a state agency.
